When Jane Perini and Wib Middleton moved back to Maryland from Arizona in 2018, they unknowingly settled on the edge of Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve. It was a neighborhood newsletter filled with fascinating facts about the Ag Reserve that piqued their interest.

We began looking into the county’s agricultural history and the people who lived in the Reserve, from farmers and business owners to artists and nonprofit organizations that all have a stake in what happens in this amazing place. Early morning forays up and down country roads with camera in tow brought a deep gratitude in this beautiful place we now called home.

We quickly came to realize that most folks who did not live in the Reserve knew very little about it; and no newspaper or magazine focused exclusively on the immense economic benefit and opportunities it brings to the county, its residents and visitors.

As a seasoned publication and visual communications team, working for many years in Washington, DC and Arizona, we decided to create a magazine that gave a voice to the Ag Reserve.

With guidance from new Reserve friends, we’ve humbly and gratefully gathered stories and insights from thought leaders, educators, farmers, entrepreneurs, stakeholders and stewards who share its history, recreational opportunities, and issues that impact the quality of life in Montgomery County now and in the decades to come.

Please take time to explore, savor and appreciate the extraordinary beauty, food, fun and history that await you in the Ag Reserve!
